Long-term plan for the development of the irrigation complex until 2050

On March 25, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Irrigation Complex until 2050.

This document defines strategic directions for the modernization of irrigation systems, expansion of the area of irrigated land, and introduction of modern technologies for the efficient use of water resources.

The main directions of the plan:

Renewal and expansion of irrigation infrastructure, in particular, reconstruction of pumping stations, canals, and pipelines.

Use of modern irrigation methods, such as drip and subsurface irrigation, which will reduce water consumption.

Rational water use and environmental protection, in particular, optimization of the distribution of water resources and prevention of their depletion.

Attracting investment and implementing public-private partnership mechanisms to finance irrigation projects.

Why is this important?
Agriculture depends on water, and climate change threatens yields. Modern irrigation technologies will help minimize the impact of droughts, improve the efficiency of the agricultural sector, and attract investment, strengthening Ukraine's economy.
